ART ON THE FAITH TRAIL
Raul was inspired by reading an article by the Bishop of St Davids Wyn Evans in the Church Newspaper which expressed his interest in promoting visits to local parish churches in the county. Raul teamed up with Reverend Sarah Geach and together they gathered together a group of artists who exhibited along part of the Pilgrim’s trail in Pembrokeshire. Asked to comment on this venture Bishop Wyn said “I am delighted to commend this unique trail that reflects the wealth of artistic talent and Christian heritage to be found in this area. Historically the church has played an important role in encouraging the arts, and this trail continues that tradition by offering a new perspective of placing the work of local artists in the setting of neighbouring churches and churchyards”.
Artists particpating this year were Richard Blacklaw-Jones, Heather Bennett, Sarah Crisp, Robert Jakes, Heather Nixon, Nigel Setera, Raul Speek, Lainey Star, Rod Williams and Deborah Withey.
Churches taking part were Llanrhian, Llanwunda, Fishguard and Solva. The official opening took place at St Davids Cathedral with Bishop Wyn officiating.
This will now be an annual event as it proved very succesful with a growing number of churches and artists particpating. Any artists wishing to participate should contact Raul on 01437 721907.
